Irish Crochet: 2nd Bud

Materials:

  • Yarn (Lace (0) weight)
  • Cotton Cord
  • U.S. size 7 (1.65 mm) Crochet Hook

Instructions:

  1. Over a single cord foundation: Sc 15
  2. Ch 1 to turn.
  3. Sc 15, without the foundation cord, hooking into both horizontal loops of the St below.
  4. Ch 1 to turn.
  5. Sc 15, without the foundation cord, hooking into both horizontal loops of the St below.
  6. Ch 1 to turn.
  7. Over the foundation cord: Sc 15, hooking into both horizontal loops of the St below.
  8. At this point you should have returned to the base of the bud.
  9. Create the stem:
    1. Over the foundation cord: Sc 10.
    2. Ch 1 to turn.
    3. Over the foundation cord: Sc 10, hooking into both horizontal loops of the St below, and returning to the base of the bud.
  10. Fasten off cords.
  11. Crochet the trio of small leaves that will later be attached to the top of the bud:
    1. *Ch 7.
    2. Sc 1 into the 2nd Ch.
    3. Sc 1 into each of the next 5 Ch Sp.
    4. Sc 3 into the final Ch Sp.
    5. Sc 5 up the backside of the original Ch of 7.
    6. Sc 3 into the final Ch Sp – rounding the leaf.
    7. Sc 1 into each St on the other side (Sc 6 in total).
    8. Sc 3 into the Sp at the end of the leaf.
    9. Work your way back to the base of the leaf with Sc 6.*
    10. Repeat the * segment until you have three mini leaves.
    11. Fasten the yarn off.
  12. Attach the leaves to the top of the bud.
