Red, Blue, and Pink Plaid

This is my first attempt at weaving.  My trip to Guatemala inspired me to learn.  This first project was very much an experimental test run in what works, what doesn’t, how a pattern comes together, how the colors combine, what happens if you use different thicknesses of yarn, and how all of this might vary depending on whether the yarn is being used as wrap or weft.  What I was left with was a free flowing plaid, and a better understanding on how to weave colors and create patterns.  I have a long ways to go, but this was an exciting first step.

I built my own loom out of a canvas stretcher frame.  As a beginner I decided not to invest in buying a loom on the off chance that I ended up not liking the craft.  So far it has been working out great, although, on the completion of this project I’m planning on going back and adding notches to my frame – it’s a work in progress.
